The exhibition Hybrids: Forging New Realities as Counter-Narrative brings together in total eleven artist that are part of Futures Photography Platform. In the space of the Gallery Melkweg Expo, artworks developed for this show varying from different mediums from photography, video and film, sculptures, performance - all existing in physical or virtual space. This exhibition was curated with intention to create a hybrid situation and treat equally the gallery and virtual space. Therefore, some of the artwork were developed and presented online and offline. The artists, selected through a public call, deal with various issues within the main backbone of the theme of this exhibition, as well as the main annual conception that Futures explores: how artists are narrating the shifting states of disciplines, human and technological communication, forms and styles of creation and questions of the right to narrate. This exhibition explores some problematics such as our relationship to machine-mediated pictures of the real, taking advantage of what the internet has to offer, embracing interactivity, using and contextualizing the plurality of voices, information processing.
